Joni Ernst Sits By Silently As Trump Endorses Alleged Child Molester

Iowa Senator Joni Ernst, who has led efforts to combat sexual assault in the military, sat quietly next to President Donald Trump today as he endorsed a man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

At a meeting in the White House were senators were discussing NAFTA trade policy with the President, Trump responded to questions about why he endorsed Roy Moore in the Alabama senate race.

“I think he’s going to do very well,” Trump said of Moore. “We don’t want to have a liberal Democrat in Alabama, believe me. We want strong borders, we want stopping crime, we want to have the things that we represent, and we certainly don’t want to have a liberal Democrat that’s controlled by Nancy Pelosi and controlled by Chuck Schumer. We don’t want to have that for Alabama.”

Ernst is seated directly to Trump’s right. She looks on silently as Trump addresses the reporters.

ABC News tweeted out a video of the exchange.

“If the allegations are true, he needs to step out,” Ernst said of Moore back in November. “There’s no room for that in the United States Senate.”

Even though the national Republican Party cut fundraising ties with Moore earlier, they have reengaged in the race this week. Trump, after keeping his distance for a while, went all-in for Moore when he called him yesterday and announced his support.

It’s unclear if Ernst has changed her views on the matter like so many of her fellow Republicans. The next question to ask may be whether she’d vote to expel Moore from the Senate if he wins, or if she’ll choose to work with the alleged sexual predator in the Senate on issues like sexual assault in the military.

Joni Ernst is up for reelection in 2020.

  • Why would any citizen in Iowa ever rely on Senator Ernst in these matters at any level? Obviously if she does not believe every woman is entitled to make her own personal medical choices without outside input she is not going to understand the volumes that picture speaks.

    • If Joni”Koch Bros ” Ernst had her own thoughts, they’d die of loneliness. She has no stand on anything unless she’s told what it is.She will be our senator of Iowa for life because she has an “R” behind her name. I’m ashamed to tell anyone that I’m from Iowa because of our representation in DC, Grassley,Ernst,KING,Blum,Young. They are voted in not on issues but by party.Ronald Reagan would turn in his grave if he knew his party was coercing with Russia,Teddy R ,if he knew they were getting rid of National Parks.Alabama Senator Moore needs no explanation.

  • Will the GOP ever find shame? Promoting alleged pedophiles? doing whatever it takes to get their way, even discarding all morals if need be? Every disgusting item coming down the pike that is tied to their UnGodly Tax Revision is a direct result of the hypocrisy their phony compassionate conservatism. I recently run across an article that may help one understand these alternative facts people: https://www.counterpunch.org/2017/12/04/the-neoliberal-survival-game: https://www.counterpunch.org/2017/12/04/the-neoliberal-survival-game/

  • My. How one changes her tune when finally seated in the halls of power (and wishes to stay there). I sinerely hope the kool-aid tastes really great! I’m minded of a bit of doggerel from poet/songwriter, E.Y. (Yip) Harburg (modified just slightly):
    “Each Congressman has two ends,
a sitting end and a think, moral end.
Since her whole success depends upon her seat,
    why bother friend?”
She’s obviously down, now, with anyone (including the person sitting behind the Resolute Desk) who has that (R) before or after one’s name. That little letter absolves one of ANY crimes one may have commited, is now commiting, or will in the future commit.
Hell; we’re only her constituents; we’re only good for votes to keep her in power. She doesn’t really have to listen to what we say. Or what righteous anger we may feel. If you’ve got that (R), Bob’s your uncle!
(2020 and 2022 cannot come soon enough!)

  • Despite the allegations from women, Roy Moore is unsuitable for public office because he has defied the rule of law, refusing to obey the courts ruling! If he wins the election, wouldn’t his oath of office (upholding the Constitution, etc.) be a lie?

  • I’m embarrassed and appalled by Iowa’s representatives-Iowa definitely needs to make some changes, starting with the governor.

  • “If the allegations are true, he needs to step out. There’s no room for that in the United States Senate.” Those are her words. I think she has the look of disgust towards the President. I’m okay with that.

    • What a bunch of liberal dimwits!! I believe that everyone is INNOCENT until proven guilty, but all those that convict him before hearing all the facts and seeing the proof are imbeciles and really should not be entitled to vote. Look at ALL the facts about Killary and she is still free. We just can’t fix stupid.
