Finkenauer Endorses Greenfield In Effort To Unseat Ernst

Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer today joined other prominent Iowa Democrats in endorsing Theresa Greenfield for the U.S. Senate.

Greenfield, president of a family-owned real estate company in Des Moines, is one of four Democratic candidates running to unseat Republican Sen. Joni Ernst in 2020.

Ernst is nearing the end of her first six-year term.

“As we fight for Iowa’s hardworking families in Congress, we need more allies like Theresa Greenfield in the Senate,” said Finkenauer, Iowa’s 1st District representative, Tuesday in a statement. “Theresa knows that whether you’re a farmer hurting from the trade war or a parent forced to pick between making rent and paying a hospital bill, Iowans deserve representatives who will be there fighting for you.

“Theresa Greenfield will answer to Iowans,” she said, “standing up to the big special interests and working to make life easier — not harder — for Iowa families.”

Greenfield also has the support of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, several Iowa unions, Congressman Dave Loebsack, former lieutenant governor Sally Pedersen and former first lady of Iowa Christie Vilsack.

“I’ve been inspired by Congresswoman Finkenauer’s leadership for Iowa’s working families and I’m so grateful for her support and endorsement. Abby knows what hardworking Iowans are up against in their lives each and every day, and she understands how hard it is for so many families in our state to get by and make ends meet in today’s economy,” said Greenfield, in a statement.

“From my first day in the Senate, I’ll be proud to work with her to level the playing field and lift up families and communities across Iowa, by expanding rural access to health care, investing in our small businesses, making sure our unions are strong, and building an agriculture policy that works for Iowa farmers.”

With the third quarter fundraising deadline at the end of this month, Greenfield likely will top the field for a second time. She ended Q2 with $628,080 raised and $594,082 in cash-on-hand.

Other candidates in the race include: Eddie Mauro, a Des Moines businessman and philanthropist; Kimberly Graham, a children’s rights attorney from Indianola; and Michael Franken, a retired Navy admiral.
