Nicole Hasso, a Republican candidate for Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, said she thinks the pandemic was a good thing for the United States because of the increased political activism it caused.
“When COVID hit, I think that was the best thing that ever happened to our country,” she told Breitbart News on Dec. 11.
The US recently passed the mark of 800,000 COVID deaths. In Iowa, 823 COVID patients are in the hospital and 7,680 people have died of it, according to state data. According to the Des Moines Register, there have been 552,898 confirmed COVID cases in Iowa throughout the pandemic.
Hasso explained that the pandemic was helpful because at-home learning showed parents what’s being taught in schools. She said learning what children are taught in schools is how she and many others got involved in politics.
“Because people start paying attention to what was actually going on,” Hasso said of why the pandemic was a positive development. “Moms are starting to rise up and to push against what they’re teaching our kids in school right now.”
Her rallying cry is against critical race theory, a legal philosophy taught in law schools and not in public schools. She also takes aim at the 1619 Project, a collective work that examines America’s history of slavery, which began when the first African slaves were taken to the Virginia colony in 1619. It also traces the impact of that institution on the country’s history.
The project was developed by Nikole Hannah-Jones, an Iowa native.
Hasso, who is Black, claims the 1619 Project doesn’t tell the truth about history and it makes Black people into victims.
“As a mom, there’s no way I’m going to sit on the sidelines and allow you to lie to my child and to tell my child that he’s a victim or that his history hates him,” she said.
“And I am a woman… a Black woman, and I believe in justice. I believe in truth. I grew up on the south side of Chicago. So I’ve seen injustice all my life. And so, I will not sit on the sidelines. I don’t care what color you are. Justice. It’s key for our country. We cannot live in a lawless society. And Critical Race Theory wants to divide us. It’s a Marxist theory.”
Hasso is one of several Republican candidates running for the nomination to take on Rep. Cindy Axne in the Des Moines-based 3rd District. Other contenders include state sen. Zach Nunn and Gary Leffler, a Trump activist who participated in the Capitol insurrection. Former legislator Mary Ann Hanusa also declared for the seat, but her home of Pottawattamie County is no longer in the district under the new map.
Sen. Ted Cruz has endorsed Hasso’s bid.

It’s hard to square this nuts delusional rambling with the Robert Ray era. How incredibly far down the rabbithole have local repubs fallen.
She makes a good point. So much truth has been exposed in a very short amount of time, and we as a nation have awoken (and are awakening) to the attempts to destroy our country and our children’s minds. I like good satire, so I tried the video recommended in a previous comment. Bleah. Stephen Colbert has nothing to worry about. I’d have to be paid before I’d watch any of that video again.
Sorry to hear you didn’t like it. I loved it. And thankfully because it is satire, it most likely won’t be removed from youtube. Satire is about the only permissible way to speak truth to large audiences on social media right now.
Misinformation about the pandemic is being widely spread in spite of social media efforts to control it, so I don’t feel sorry for the poor unfortunate misinformers who can’t spread their misinformation quite as easily as before. I have extended-family members who believe the misinformation, and that is putting one of my very elderly relatives in peril, to the chagrin of the rest of the family. We don’t find humor in that. I do find humor in the many, many results that pop up if one googles “why aren’t conservatives funny.”
You’re right. “Misinformation” (as you call it, although I believe you’re referring to factual but disallowed information) is spreading just fine despite censorship efforts. Your lack of concern over censorship is unsurprising and indicative of communistic brainwashing, and I’m happy to hear that your extended family members are on to the truth (which you will eventually be on to as well).

If that weird screed seemed to you to be worth recommending to me, let’s just agree to heartily disagree and stop wasting each other’s time. Unlike you, I don’t have enough arrogance to claim that “you will eventually be on to” the truth, so I have nothing else to say to you, which means my taking up of your time will stop now.
