A boil order was issued for most of Warren County on Monday because of a ruptured water line.
Affected cities include Milo, Martinsdale, New Virginia, Truro, and Saint Mary’s, according to an Iowa Department of Natural Resources press release. The city of Indianola is not affected.
This order impacts approximately 5,900 rural customers.
The damage to the water line happened late Sunday and affected water levels and the pressure in several water towers. Repairs were made early Monday morning, but officials still advise boiling water to kill bacteria and other organisms just to be safe.

Boiling goes for water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, or preparing food. People should boil the water for one minute before cooling it for use. Bottled water is also a good option. Water for bathing does not need to be boiled.
The advisory will be in place until officials with the Warren Water District tests two sets of water samples, taken 16 hours apart, to determine whether the water is safe. Test results will be released Wednesday morning.
